What is a chemical peel?
Chemical peel is the application of specific chemicals, usually acids, to the surface of the skin. This causes the top layers of the skin to shed. New skin growth is stimulated, and this is fresher and has fewer blemishes.
Medium depth chemical peels
Medium depth chemical peels penetrate deeper into the skin, and as well as giving the same beneficial effects as superficial chemical peels, they also create tightening of the skin and so improve fine lines and wrinkles. 5 to 7 days are required for recovery.
Superficial chemical peels
Superficial chemical peels only affect the top most layers of the skin. Peeling occurs for 1 to 3 days after treatment. The skin appears refreshed and renewed.
Superficial chemical peels are used for:
- Sun spots
- Freckles
- Lack lustre
- skin
- Acne
